The Brief

In the spirit of This American Life, The Moth, and other storytelling events, Arctic Entries brings Alaskans to the stage to share their personal stories: funny, sad and sweet. At every performance, seven people each tell a seven-minute long true story about themselves relating to the show’s theme. Local musicians perform a few songs as well. Proceeds made from Arctic Entries’s ticket sales go to a non-profit partner selected at the beginning of each season. Currently, all Arctic Entries’ regular season shows take place at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts at 621 West 6th Ave., Anchorage, AK.

A Little Bit of History

There’s always a place in your home where people gather and stories are born. The East Coast has stoops. The South has porches. Alaska has arctic entries. This show features true stories born from those moments when we close the door on eight feet of snow or the midnight sun, pull off our rubber boots, and say, “You’ll never guess what happened…”

Arctic Entries was brainstormed and executed by co-founders Tara Loyd and James Keck. The first show was in February 2010 at Cyrano’s Off-Center Playhouse in downtown Anchorage. When the show quickly outgrew the available space, it moved to the Snowgoose Theatre. As word got out, the event continued to draw larger and larger crowds leading to long ticketing lines and oversold shows. When the words “fire marshal” were uttered, another evolution was planned. In May 2013, Arctic Entries moved to the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets still go fast, but now you can buy them online.
